The Division of Humanities and Social
Science at GSU
is a part of the College of Arts and Sciences and encompasses a range of
programs designed to prepare the next generation of leaders in their careers as
well as in their communities. Our goal
is to empower students to participate in their own governance and to be a part
of a more civil public discourse, promote social justice and engage in the
world.
The excellent undergraduate programs
include Bachelor of Art degrees in Anthropology and Sociology, Criminal Justice,
English, English with a Teacher Education Concentration, History, Political
Science, and Social Sciences. Also
included in the HSS is our B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies degree.
The Bachelor of Arts in
Interdisciplinary Studies program offers a unique opportunity for both
traditional and non-traditional students.
It is designed for adults who lead busy lives but would like to advance
their career options by completing their undergraduate degree. The program can be done either part- or
full-time and is set up for academic variety, course schedule flexibility and
program adaptability. It offers a choice
of 21 minors.
There is also a component to the
program that may allow you to take prior life experiences and turn them into
undergraduate college credit. With all
of the program’s flexibility, we call the Interdisciplinary Studies a
"build your own" degree as it enables you to tailor your coursework
to efficiently and effectively meet specific vocational and career goals.
Graduates
from a HSS program are not only prepared for their first job, but also with the
ability to harness their creativity and adapt to future economic, cultural and
social changes. Please see the Division
of Humanities and Social Science’s website for details and requirements for all
of our exciting programs.
Academic excellence and innovation are natural
partners. At Governors State University you’ll find an
abundance of both. We
have a highly diverse student body and our courses are taught by gifted
professors. Our
rich history, cultural amenities and a beautiful campus all contribute to
making us one of best colleges in Chicago.
