CAS Offers Opportunities for Graduate Students

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at Governors State awards Graduate Tuition Waivers and Graduate Assistantships every year on a limited basis.  All current GSU graduate level students are eligible to apply.  If you are an undergraduate student, please contact the GSU’s Office of Admissions for information on undergraduate tuition assistance. 

There are several requirements and conditions that must be met by a graduate student to qualify for one of our Tuition Waivers or Assistantships and the CAS website provides all of the details.  Areas that are particularly sought after for awarding Tuition Waivers are creative leadership and service qualities as related to the disciplines within the College and University.  Also consideration is given for non-academic achievements and involvement in extracurricular activities.  These can be associated with one’s major or may be in other areas.

Recipients are selected based on evaluation of all submitted materials and are reviewed by the Division Chair and a committee of faculty in the appropriate discipline.  An interview or public competitions may also be used to determine winners of the award.  The Dean has final approval of all awards. 

Furthermore, we require each applicant to include evidence of achievements and talents with their application.  If you are seeking eligibility based on leadership experience, such experience must be documented by letters of appointment or commendation, awards, portfolios, or other examples.  For those whose talents are creative, documentation may include recordings, manuscripts, films, prints, slides, awards, etc.
